Overview
Registered in 1999 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Birchwood Parky's Gold', 'Zuzu's Petals' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins. The leaves measure 6 inches (15.2 cm) in length and 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) in width, with a light green-yellow marginal variegation that provides subtle contrast against the darker green center.
In the Garden
This compact hosta reaches a mature size of approximately 8 to 10 inches in height and 12 to 15 inches in spread, making it suitable for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain most vivid, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas. Its small stature also makes it an appropriate choice for trough gardens or fairy gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and snails, which may damage the foliage, and monitor for deer browsing in areas where these animals are present.
