Overview
Registered in 2005 by K. Squires and the Lantis Collection, with registration handled by P. and J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Yorick' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its dark green leaf centers bordered by creamy white margins with green undertones. The ovate leaves, measuring 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, feature slightly rippled edges and a notably shiny underside, with the margin width ranging from 0.4 to 0.5 inches (1.0 to 1.3 cm).
In the Garden
Reaching a mature diameter of 18 inches (45.7 cm) and height of 20 inches (50.8 cm) with an upright growth habit, *Hosta* 'Yorick' performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for variegated hostas. Its moderate growth rate and small stature make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation, where the dark center and cream edge provide contrast against finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents in typical hosta-growing zones.
