Overview
Registered in 2003, 'Yojimbo' is a giant hosta of unknown parentage, with *Hosta* 'Sagae' as its pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its enormous, heavily corrugated, medium green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a broad ovate shape with cordate base, forming a massive mound.
In the Garden
This cultivar is best suited to partial to full shade, where its large, textured leaves can develop fully without scorching. At maturity, it reaches approximately 32 inches (81.3 cm) in height and 72 inches (182.9 cm) in diameter, making it a commanding specimen for the back of a border or as a focal point in a woodland garden. Its tall green scapes, reaching 44 to 46 inches (111.8 to 116.8 cm), bear abundant flowers and rise well above the foliage, adding vertical interest. Companion plants should be chosen to complement its scale, such as ferns or shade-tolerant perennials of similar stature.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as both pests may damage the large leaves in typical hosta-growing zones.
