Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Standard' registered in 2002, 'Work of Art' is a small hosta distinguished by its unusual color reversal: creamy white leaf centers are framed by dark green, flat margins, the inverse of its parent's gold-centered, green-margined foliage. The leaves are ovate with tapered bases, lightly corrugated, and dull on both surfaces, with eight vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Work of Art' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white centers remain distinct without scorching. Its small size suits rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, and it pairs well with fine-textured companions such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and protect as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
