Overview
Registered in 1994, *Hosta* 'Wintergreen' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from a hybrid of *H. 'Sea Prize'*. Its distinctive foliage consists of blue-green leaves with creamy white margins, a slightly rippled edge, and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
Mature plants reach approximately 25 inches (63.5 cm) in diameter and 7 inches (17.8 cm) in height, with a semi-upright growth habit. The leaves are 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) long and 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) wide, featuring 11 vein pairs and a cordate base. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover under deciduous trees. The dark green scapes rise to 22 inches (55.9 cm) and bear lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Wintergreen' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
