Overview

Registered in 1998 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sea Fire', 'White Hot' is a small-sized hosta cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with creamy white to pale yellow margins. The leaves measure 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in length and 3 inches (7.6 cm) in width, with flat margins, rounded bases, and 10 to 11 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'White Hot' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump suitable for shaded to partially shaded borders, rock gardens, or the front of woodland beds. Its compact dimensions make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where the contrasting white margins remain prominent. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small sedges complement its tidy habit without overwhelming it.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
