Overview

Registered in 1999 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'White Christmas' is a small, slow-growing cultivar distinguished by its creamy white leaf centers framed by medium green, slightly rippled margins. The leaf blades are dull-surfaced on both sides, with a tapered base and six vein pairs.

In the Garden

This compact, mound-forming hosta reaches 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and spreads to 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the white center remains stable and the green margins hold their color. Its small size pairs well with other diminutive perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like many hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and use barriers or deterrents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
