Overview

Registered in 2011, 'White Butterflies' is a small hosta cultivar bred from the cross of *H. 'None Lovelier'* and *H. 'Rosedale Lost Dutchman'*. It is visually distinctive for its combination of blue-green, glaucous foliage and pure white flowers, a contrast that sets it apart from many small hostas.

In the Garden

'White Butterflies' forms a mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is well-suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or as a specimen in small spaces. Its compact size makes it appropriate for container cultivation. Companion plants might include ferns, heucheras, or other small shade perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'White Butterflies' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
