Overview

Registered in 1976 by breeder P. Aden, this small hosta cultivar is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Tokudama Aureonebulosa' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Tokudama Flavocircinalis' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive feature is the blue-green leaf color with streaked margins, combined with a glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Wahoo' reaches a mature size of 10 inches (25.4 cm) in both height and diameter, with individual leaves measuring 5 inches (12.7 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, bearing eight pairs of veins. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for blue-green hostas, and is well-suited for small garden spaces, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its compact habit. Companion plants that provide textural contrast include small ferns, heucheras, or dwarf astilbes.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur, though the glaucous leaf coating offers some resistance to pests.
