Overview
Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster of the American Hosta Society, 'Velvet Bows' is a miniature hosta with variegated foliage. Its ovate leaves, measuring 3 inches (7.6 cm) long and 1.75 inches (4.4 cm) wide, feature light green flat margins and a slightly shiny upper surface, with a dull underside and 5 to 7 vein pairs.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for shaded borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation, given its miniature size. Companion plants may include small ferns, heucheras, or other diminutive perennials that thrive in similar conditions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in well-draining soil. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Monitor for slug and deer damage, which can affect the foliage in typical hosta-growing zones.
