Overview
Registered in 2013 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Titanic', 'Unsinkable Molly Brown' is a giant blue-green cultivar distinguished by its very shiny, broadly ovate leaves with a glaucous bloom beneath and slightly rippled margins of dark green and light green. The plant forms a large, mound-like clump with an unruly, vigorous growth habit, reaching 26 inches (66.0 cm) in height and 57 inches (144.8 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, and its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in large borders and woodland gardens. The fast growth rate and spreading habit allow it to fill significant space within two to three seasons, and it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its broad, shiny foliage. Its large dimensions preclude use in small containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain leaf turgor, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves show moderate resistance to slugs, though deer may browse the foliage in areas with high pressure.
