Overview

Registered in 1997 by an unknown hybridizer, 'Tweety Bird' is a small hosta cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with medium gold flat margins and very shiny upper surfaces. The leaf blade measures 4 inches (10.2 cm) long by 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide, with 6 to 8 vein pairs and a rounded base, while the underside is slightly shiny.

In the Garden

This slow-growing, mound-forming hosta reaches 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter at maturity, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for the genus, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or dwarf astilbes. The scape rises 8 to 12 inches (20.3 to 30.5 cm) above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage in typical hosta-growing zones, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable.
