Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Stained Glass' registered in 2002, 'Tortilla Chip' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with yellow, slightly rippled margins. The broadly ovate, lightly twisted and wavy foliage emerges with a yellow cast that matures to a green center with gold edges, and the plant produces fragrant flowers on green scapes reaching 30 to 32 inches (76.2 to 81.3 cm) in height.
In the Garden
'Tortilla Chip' forms a mound-like clump 16 inches (40.6 cm) tall and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where its gold-margined leaves hold their color without scorching, and is suitable for typical hosta-growing zones. The plant's medium stature makes it appropriate for mid-border positions, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in mixed shade plantings, pairing well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the tender foliage is attractive to both pests.
