Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek through the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Tenryu Nishiki' is a large, mound-forming cultivar derived from *H. longipes*. It is visually distinguished by its blue-green leaf centers bordered by narrow, greenish-yellow, slightly rippled margins, with a glaucous bloom on the undersides.

In the Garden

'Tenryu Nishiki' reaches a mature spread of approximately 64 inches (163 cm) and a height of 22 inches (56 cm), forming a dense, rounded clump. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers and gold margins remain most stable. This cultivar is suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds, and pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it unsuitable for containers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in drier periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
