Overview

Registered in 2004 by E. Deckert, this large hosta cultivar is distinguished by green leaves with gold margins and heavily ribbed, wavy edges. The ovate leaves, measuring 12 inches (30.5 cm) long and 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) wide, feature greenish yellow, slightly rippled margins and a slightly shiny surface on both sides.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Templar Gold' forms an upright clump reaching 29 inches (73.7 cm) in diameter and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height, with a medium-fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its substantial leaf size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or in mixed shade borders. The yellow scapes, reaching 30 to 36 inches (76.2 to 91.4 cm), provide vertical interest above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing, so appropriate protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
