Overview
Registered in 2009 by the American Hosta Society via K. Walek, 'Tea Ceremony' is a large hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its broad, ovate blue-green leaves with dark green to blue-green margins, a dull upper surface, and a glaucous bloom on the underside, combined with moderate corrugation and a dense, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
'Tea Ceremony' forms a substantial mound reaching 24 inches (61 cm) in height and 66 inches (168 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or focal point in shaded borders and woodland gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains its color, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size precludes container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so preventive measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
