Overview
Registered in 1983 by R. Benedict, this medium-sized cultivar results from a cross between *H.* 'Ginko Craig' (pod parent) and *H. plantaginea* (pollen parent). 'Sweet Marjorie' is visually distinguished by its medium mat green leaves with undulating margins, a variegation pattern inherited from its parentage, and its compact, mounded form.
In the Garden
'Sweet Marjorie' reaches a mature size of 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the middle to front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its moderate size also allows for use in containers or as a groundcover in woodland settings.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
