Overview
Registered in 2002 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sundance', 'Sunspray' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by dark green leaves with unstable creamy white streaks and narrow, slightly rippled creamy white margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 7 inches long and 2.63 inches wide, feature six vein pairs and a slightly shiny surface on both sides, with prominent veination and a lightly wavy texture.
In the Garden
Reaching 8 inches in height and 17 inches in diameter with a mound-like habit and moderate growth rate, 'Sunspray' is suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its white-streaked foliage provides contrast against darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. The compact size makes it an excellent choice for small garden spaces or troughs.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Sunspray' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
