Overview
Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Sunny Disposition' is a small-sized cultivar derived from *H. ventricosa* as seed parent and *H.* 'Birchwood Parky's Gold' as pollen parent. Its most distinctive feature is the green leaf blade edged with greenish-yellow, moderately heavily rippled margins, combined with a surface texture that produces a sparkling, diamond-dust effect under direct sunlight.
In the Garden
Reaching a mature diameter of 24 inches (61.0 cm) and a height of 10 inches (25.4 cm), 'Sunny Disposition' forms a moderate-growing clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. Its ovate leaves, measuring 6 inches (15.2 cm) long by 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, are lightly twisted, folded, and wavy, with a dull upper surface and slightly shiny underside. The greenish-yellow margins brighten with morning sun, though the plant performs best in partial shade to maintain leaf color and prevent scorching. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, or small shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly on the young, emerging foliage.
