Overview

Registered in 1999 by the Russ O'Harra Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Sun Banner' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Sun Power' and is classified as a large-sized cultivar. It is visually distinctive for its medium green leaves with wide, golden yellow margins that are slightly rippled, creating a strong bicolor contrast.

In the Garden

'Sun Banner' forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump reaching 24 inches (61 cm) in height and 53 inches (134.6 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where the gold margins remain bright without scorching. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or as part of a mixed border, where it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Sun Banner' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate control measures may be necessary.
