Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, 'Summer Ripples' is a small-sized hosta cultivar derived from the pod parent *Hosta* 'Beatrice' and an unknown pollen parent. Its distinguishing feature is the combination of green leaf centers with narrow, white, slightly rippled margins, which give the foliage a crisp, variegated appearance.

In the Garden

'Summer Ripples' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching approximately 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in diameter. It is well-suited for partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its small stature makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, container plantings, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small woodland perennials complement its tidy habit.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage regularly and employ control measures if needed.
