Overview

Registered in 1998 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Rohdeifolia', this miniature cultivar is distinguished by its small, medium-green leaves with pure white, slightly rippled margins. The leaf blades measure 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) long by 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide, with four vein pairs, a tapered base, and a slightly shiny upper surface contrasting with a very shiny underside. The white margin is approximately 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) wide.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Sugar Pie' reaches a mature clump diameter of 10 inches (25.4 cm) and a height of 6 inches (15.2 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It is well suited for shaded or partially shaded locations, where its compact size makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a border. The small dimensions also render it suitable for container cultivation. Companion plants might include other miniature hostas or small, shade-tolerant perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.

Care Notes

Standard hosta care applies: consistent moisture during the growing season, with a balanced fertilizer applied in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed. This cultivar performs reliably in typical hosta-growing zones.
