Overview
Registered in 1998 by H. Sugita and P. Ruh, this medium-sized cultivar results from a cross between *Hosta longipes* (pod parent) and *Hosta pycnophylla* (pollen parent). 'Strawberry Delight' is visually distinctive for its blue-green foliage with heavily rippled margins, a very shiny upper surface, and a glaucous bloom beneath, combined with a cordate leaf base.
In the Garden
Forming a mound-like clump approximately 27 inches (68.6 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) tall, this cultivar exhibits a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns, heucheras, and astilbes. Its medium size and compact habit make it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as foliage may be susceptible to damage.
