Overview
Registered in 1994, 'Starboard Light' is a large hosta cultivar derived from a hybrid of *H. 'Komodo Dragon'*. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves edged with dark yellow margins, forming a semi-upright mound of substantial proportions.
In the Garden
'Starboard Light' reaches a mature height of 24 inches (61.0 cm) with a spread of 28 inches (71.1 cm), making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its large, cordate-based leaves, each 11 inches (27.9 cm) long and 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide with 14 vein pairs, pair well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its gold-margined foliage. The scape height is recorded as 40 inches (101.6 cm), though this dimension may vary under cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Starboard Light' may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in typical hosta-growing zones.
