H. ‘Spring Shower’

Hosta ‘Spring Shower’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2007
Section classIII-2

Overview

Registered in 2007, 'Spring Shower' is a medium-sized hosta resulting from an F2 cross of a very blue *Hosta sieboldiana* with *Hosta longipes*, using *H. sieboldiana* × *H.* 'One Man's Treasure' as the pod parent with open pollination. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases, glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and lightly folded, lightly corrugated texture with flat margins.

In the Garden

'Spring Shower' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. Blue scapes rise 24 to 26 inches (61.0 to 66.0 cm) above the foliage. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green coloration is most pronounced. It pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Spring Shower' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
