Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Decorata', 'Spring Sensation' was registered in 1991 by L. Simpers and P. Ruh. This small cultivar is distinguished by its green leaves with broad, single, yellow-gold margins that exhibit a large undulation, creating a clear two-tone effect.
In the Garden
'Spring Sensation' reaches a mature height of 10 inches (25.4 cm) and a spread of 21 inches (53.3 cm), forming a compact mound suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or spring bulbs. Its small size makes it an excellent choice for troughs or mixed containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry spells. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges; this cultivar may show some slug resistance due to its thicker leaf substance, but standard slug and deer deterrents are recommended in high-pressure areas.
