Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Funny Mouse' registered in 2013, 'Solar Mouse' is a miniature hosta distinguished by its green leaves with pale yellow to gold margins. The foliage is broadly ovate with cordate bases, lightly wavy margins, and dull surfaces on both sides.
In the Garden
'Solar Mouse' forms a compact mound 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) tall and 11 inches (27.9 cm) wide, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for gold-margined hostas, and is well-suited to rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where it can be paired with other miniature perennials such as small ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage regularly for signs of feeding.
