Year registered2013
Section classV-1

Overview

Registered in 2013 as a selfed seedling of *Hosta* 'Gaigin', 'Small World' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its intensely flat, nearly round leaves with dark green margins and a cordate base. The leaf blade measures 3 inches (7.6 cm) long by 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide, bearing 5 to 7 vein pairs, with a slightly shiny upper and lower surface.

In the Garden

Reaching a mature diameter of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and a height of 4 inches (10.2 cm), 'Small World' forms a compact, mound-like clump with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its neat, deep green foliage remains most uniform. The diminutive size makes it well suited for troughs, rock gardens, or the front of a shaded border, where it can be paired with other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
