Overview

Registered in 2006, *Hosta* 'Small Parts' is a miniature cultivar of unknown parentage (pollen parent), with *H.* 'Gummy Bear' as the pod parent. Its distinguishing features are a compact, mound-like habit; very shiny, thick-textured leaves with medium green margins and flat variegation; and a fast growth rate that quickly forms a small clump.

In the Garden

'Small Parts' reaches a mature size of approximately 5 inches (13 cm) in diameter and 2 inches (5.6 cm) in height, making it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Despite its miniature stature, it tolerates full sun, though in typical hosta-growing zones it benefits from afternoon shade to prevent leaf scorch. Its small, ovate leaves pair well with other diminutive perennials such as *Sedum* or *Thymus*, and it is an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While the thick leaf substance offers some resistance, monitor for slugs and deer, which may still damage the foliage.
