Overview
Registered in 2007, *Hosta* 'Singin' the Blues' is a large, upright cultivar resulting from an open-pollinated seedling of *H. 'Trail's End'. It is visually distinctive for its heavily rippled, medium blue-green leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and for its notably wavy leaf margins.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a substantial clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 50 inches (127 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glaucous bloom persists. Its large, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases and moderate cupping make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders; it is not recommended for container culture due to its size.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, and the glaucous bloom on the leaves is easily marred by handling or overhead watering.
