Overview
Registered in 2005 as a sport of an unidentified parent, *Hosta* 'Silver Chalice' is distinguished by its large, nearly round leaves of light green with wide, creamy white margins. The foliage is notably cupped and deeply corrugated, with a heavy substance that contributes to its substantial appearance.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound 25 inches (63.5 cm) tall and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and its large, textured leaves make it a strong specimen plant for borders or woodland gardens. The greenish-yellow scapes, reaching 27 to 34 inches (68.6 to 86.4 cm) in height, bear flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Silver Chalice' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate preventative measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
