Overview

Registered in 2012 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Jane Ward', 'Shall We Dance' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its unusual leaf coloration: light yellow centers with dark green, slightly rippled margins, often accompanied by pale yellow streaking. The leaves are lance-shaped with tapered bases, measure 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, and bear nine pairs of veins; both surfaces are dull.

In the Garden

This compact hosta forms a mound 16 inches (40.6 cm) tall and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the yellow centers remain brightest, and is well-suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants with contrasting foliage, such as ferns or heucheras, complement its variegation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
