Overview
Registered in 2005 as a sport of a *Hosta* 'Sea Prize' seedling, 'Shade Parade' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, deeply corrugated leaves with creamy white margins and a yellow-green center. The leaf surface is slightly shiny above and below, with 6 to 9 vein pairs and a moderately cupped profile.
In the Garden
'Shade Parade' reaches 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, forming a compact mound with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for small hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its small size and tidy habit make it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border, though it is not specifically noted as a container variety.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Shade Parade' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
