Overview

Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Sea Fire' is a large, fast-growing cultivar of unknown parentage, notable for its bright yellow leaf margins that emerge in spring. The leaves are ovate with cordate bases, dull green with bright yellow flat margins, lightly corrugated, and measure 10 inches (25.4 cm) long by 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide with 11 vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Sea Fire' forms a mound-like clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in diameter, with scapes 24 to 38 inches (61.0 to 96.5 cm) tall bearing light green stems with red mist. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials; it is not suited for container culture due to its large mature dimensions.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and apply controls as needed.
