Overview

Registered in 2012, *Hosta* 'Scheherazade' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Kikutii Leuconata' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, lance-shaped leaves with flat margins, a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and a fast growth rate that produces a dense, mound-like habit.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, forming a compact mound suitable for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover in partial to full shade. Its blue-green foliage pairs well with yellow- or gold-leaved companions such as *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' or *Carex* species. The 16- to 17-inch scapes bear green flowers in midsummer, adding vertical interest without overwhelming the plant.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and use barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
