Overview

Registered in 2007, *Hosta* 'Sayuri' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its intensely purple scapes that rise above a mound of blue-green leaves with moderately rippled, wavy margins. The foliage exhibits a slight wax coating on the upper surface, while the undersides display a glaucous bloom, and the leaf color trends toward the yellow end of the green spectrum.

'Sayuri' forms a mound 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is suitable for border plantings, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in mixed shade beds. Its medium size and upright scapes make it compatible with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrents are recommended, as hostas are susceptible to both.
