Overview

Registered in 1998, *Hosta* 'Ruffled Petticoats' is a giant hybrid derived from *Hosta* 'Green Piecrust'. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its very large, heavily rippled leaves with medium green margins and a dull upper surface contrasting with a very shiny underside, borne on upright scapes that reach 38 to 40 inches (96.5 to 101.6 cm) in height.

In the Garden

This giant hosta forms a substantial clump 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 20 inches (50.8 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its upright habit makes it suitable for mid-border or as a specimen plant in larger gardens. The bold, textured foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in leaf form.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage the foliage, and deer will browse the leaves if accessible.
