Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Summer Serenade' registered in 2007, 'Roy Klehm' is a tetraploid large hosta distinguished by its blue-green leaves with wide, dark green margins. The broadly ovate, flat leaves measure 11 inches (27.9 cm) long by 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide, with 10 to 11 pairs of veins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.

In the Garden

'Roy Klehm' reaches 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height with an upright habit and spreads to 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its substantial leaves provide textural contrast when paired with ferns, heucheras, or fine-textured grasses. The green scapes rise to 34 inches (86.4 cm) and bear lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
