Overview
Registered in 1998, 'Roundhouse Blues' is a large hosta cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its heavily textured, cupped blue-green leaves with a pronounced glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The foliage forms a dense, upright mound of cordate leaves measuring 10 inches long by 9 inches wide, with medium blue-green margins and 15 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature spread of 36 inches (91.4 cm) with a height of 21 inches (53.3 cm), making it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. Its upright habit and slow growth rate allow it to integrate well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials without overwhelming smaller companions. The blue foliage provides contrast against green or gold-leaved plants in partial to full shade.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most blue-leaved hostas, the glaucous bloom is easily marred by overhead watering or handling; slug and deer damage may occur in typical hosta-growing zones.
