Overview
Registered in 1999, 'Rosedale Pebbles' is a large hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Galaxy' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Elegans' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its broad, blue-green leaves with cordate bases, dull upper surfaces, and a glaucous bloom on the undersides, complemented by medium green, slightly rippled margins and 16 vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Rosedale Pebbles' reaches a mature size of approximately 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height, with an upright growth habit and a slow growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its blue-green foliage provides contrast alongside yellow- or gold-leaved companions such as *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' or *Hosta* 'Gold Standard'. Its large size makes it an effective specimen or mid-border plant, though it is not recommended for containers due to its dimensions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Rosedale Pebbles' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents or barriers may be necessary.
