Overview

Registered in 1999, 'Rosedale Mr Blue Jeans' is a giant hosta cultivar of unknown breeder, produced from a cross between *H.* 'RD-BS-1' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Galaxy' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its exceptionally large, intensely blue-green leaves with broad margins that maintain their color well into the growing season.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches giant proportions, with leaves measuring up to 15 inches (38.1 cm) long and 13 inches (33.0 cm) wide, forming a substantial mound suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its bold foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in texture or color. Given its size, it is not suited for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Rosedale Mr Blue Jeans' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, and may benefit from protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
