Section classIII-1

Overview

Registered in 2000 by breeder R. D. Smith, this medium-sized hosta forms a compact mound of variegated foliage. Its leaves measure 8 inches (20.3 cm) long by 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide, with dark green margins surrounding a lighter center, creating a distinct bicolored appearance. The cultivar is the result of a cross between *H.* 'RD-BS' (pod parent) and *H.* 'RD-10' (pollen parent).

In the Garden

*Hosta* 'Rosedale Little Puddle' performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegation remains most stable. At maturity, it forms a rounded clump approximately 12 to 18 inches tall and 24 to 30 inches wide, suitable for the middle to front of a shaded border or woodland garden. It pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials, and its compact habit makes it appropriate for container culture.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
