Hosta ‘Rosedale Houdini’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2000
Section classIV-7

Overview

Originating from the breeding program of Rosedale Gardens and registered in 2000, this small hosta cultivar is the product of a cross between *H.* 'RD-BS' (pod parent) and *H.* '998' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its variegated leaves with streaked margins, a pattern that sets it apart from more uniformly edged cultivars.

In the Garden

Reaching a mature size of approximately 5 inches (12.7 cm) in length and 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in width, this small hosta is well suited for the front of a border, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs effectively with other small-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its compact habit makes it an excellent choice for trough gardens or shaded patio pots.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; appropriate control measures should be taken in areas where these pests are prevalent.
