H. ‘Roller Coaster’

Overview

Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Roller Coaster' is a large cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Dorothy Benedict'* and *H. hypoleuca*. It is distinguished by its blue-green leaves with wide, heavily rippled gold margins, the undulating edges of which give the cultivar its name.

In the Garden

'Roller Coaster' forms an upright, slow-growing clump reaching approximately 28 inches (71.1 cm) in height and 27 inches (68.6 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to light shade, where the leaf coloration remains true. Its substantial size and bold foliage make it suitable as a specimen or as part of a mixed border with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns and astilbes.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable for this cultivar in typical hosta-growing zones.
