Section classIII-3

Overview

Registered in 2004, 'Rod's Gold' is a self-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Tokudama' that forms a medium-sized, mound-like clump. The cultivar is distinguished by its nearly round, deeply corrugated leaves with golden yellow margins, a highly glossy upper surface, and a white, dull underside.

In the Garden

'Rod's Gold' reaches 24 inches (61 cm) in both height and diameter, with scapes rising 30 to 36 inches (76 to 91 cm). Its moderate growth rate and substantial leaf substance make it suitable for partially shaded sites in typical hosta-growing zones. The seersuckered foliage pairs well with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage the foliage, though the thick, corrugated leaves offer some resistance; deer are known to browse hostas.
