Overview
Registered in 1996 as a sport of *Hosta* 'White Christmas', 'Robert's Rapier' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with white margins and a narrow green band within the white edge. The leaves are 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with slightly rippled margins, a dull surface above and below, and a rounded base, typically bearing six to seven vein pairs.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or shade-tolerant grasses complement its variegated foliage.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Robert's Rapier' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
