Overview

Registered in 1991 by R. Solberg, this medium-sized sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Regal' is distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins, a reverse of the typical gold-centered, green-margined pattern found in many hostas. The leaf blade is light yellow with dark green margins ranging from 0 to 0.75 inches (0–1.9 cm) wide.

In the Garden

'Hosta' 'Rascal' forms a clump 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter and 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall, with leaves 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide bearing 9 to 10 vein pairs. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and reaches a mature size suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover under deciduous trees. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, and shade-tolerant *Geranium* species.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and control as needed.
