Overview
Registered in 1986 by F. Williams and C. Williams, 'Purple Profusion' is a small hosta derived from a hybrid of *Hosta sieboldii* 'Alba'. Its visual distinction lies in the combination of medium green leaf margins with a variegated pattern, producing a compact, mounded form.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 16 inches (40.6 cm) and a height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging along pathways. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small shade perennials. Its compact size also makes it a strong candidate for container plantings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers are recommended.
