Overview

Registered in 2000 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Heavenly Constellation', 'Pulsar' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, creamy white margins. The foliage is slightly shiny on the upper surface and bears a glaucous bloom beneath, with cordate leaf bases and 13 vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Pulsar' reaches 34 inches (86.4 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter at maturity, with an upright growth habit. Its large, variegated leaves and tall scapes (47 to 51 inches, or 119.4 to 129.5 cm) make it a substantial specimen for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. The green scapes support pale lavender flowers in midsummer, and the cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials that complement its blue-green and white coloration.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Pulsar' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
