Overview

Registered in 2007 as a selfed sport of *Hosta* 'Sea Prize', 'Princess Johnnie' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its white leaf centers bordered by light and dark green margins. The leaves are lance-shaped with rounded bases, measuring 7.25 inches (18.4 cm) long and 4.25 inches (10.8 cm) wide, with 10 vein pairs and a dull surface on both sides. The white center is notably stable and does not melt out in heat, and the leaf substance is good.

In the Garden

'Princess Johnnie' forms a mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 31 inches (78.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, as is typical for variegated hostas, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in mixed shade beds. Its medium size makes it appropriate for the middle of a planting or as a groundcover in shaded areas.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, especially in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs and deer may feed on the foliage; monitor and control as needed.
